(Copy) New York August, 2nd 1765 Sir, I am glad to find by your letter of the 20th of June that the cannon, which Colonel Bradstreet left on the shore of Lake Erie, has been recovered. Yours of the 19th of July is received, in which you have explained to me the order you had given about advancing the price of the provisions over the carrying place, in order to repay the transportation, for which I am much obliged to you. Colonel Campbell did not give much credence to the reports made to him, but whether true or false, I hope he will be more communicative hereafter of all the heart. The news you heard of Fraser and his party is entirely false. Refer to Captain Gordon for the news concerning him, and all other novelties in this part of the world. Also, your colonel is married to Miss Conolly and does not come over to America this year. They have suspicions of the bad designs of the Chippewa of Saguinam and some other tribes against Michilimackinac, and I fear they are with good foundation. The officer is apprised and on his guard, so that nothing can be effected that can do him any harm. I am, Sir, Your obedient servant, Honorable Lieutenant Colonel Vaughan Niagara
